Description
Nitrogenous ferrochrome is a ferroalloy of the ferrochrome group, usually containing 60-70% chromium and relatively high amounts of nitrogen (at least) 8%. Nitrogenous ferrochrome usually occurs in the form of silver-gray lumps and is used in steelmaking due to its special properties to produce steels with unique properties.
Properties of Nitrogenous ferrochrome:
- Increased hardness, strength and toughness due to the presence of nitrogen
- Increased wear resistance
- Increased corrosion resistance in corrosive environments
Applications of Nitrogenous ferrochrome:
- Used in the production of stainless steels (In Cr-Ni stainless steels, the nickel element can be replaced with nitrogen, which leads to a reduction in economic costs.)
- Production of welding electrodes
