Ductile cast iron ongot

Ductile cast iron ongot

Ductile iron is an alloy composed of iron, carbon (3.6-3.9%), and silicon. By adding a small amount of magnesium to the molten ductile iron before pouring the molten into the mold, nodular graphite is formed.

Features and Applications of Ductile Iron:

  • Excellent fluidity and castability
  • High machinability and workability
  • High tensile and compressive strength (especially under heavy loads)

And so on…

  • Electrical equipment such as transformers
  • Components for heavy industries like machinery and equipment manufacturing
  • In the automotive industry for making parts such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks

Description

Ductile Iron (also known as Nodular Cast Iron) is an alloy composed of iron, carbon (3.6-3.9%), and silicon. By adding a small amount of magnesium to the molten ductile iron before pouring it into the mold, Nodular graphite is formed. Ductile iron, with its Nodular graphite structure, possesses unique mechanical properties (higher flexibility and strength, resistance to breaking and cracking) compared to other types of cast iron, which leads to its wide applications in various industries.

Features of Ductile Iron:

  • High tensile and compressive strength (especially under heavy loads)
  • Excellent fluidity and castability
  • High machinability and workability
  • Very good strength-to-weight ratio
  • Lower melting temperature compared to steel
  • Malleability
  • Abrasion resistance
  • Impact resistance
  • Corrosion resistance
  • Flexibility

Applications of Ductile Iron:

  • Manufacturing of containers and pipes
  • Production of components with varying thicknesses
  • Electrical equipment such as transformers
  • Components for heavy industries, such as machinery and equipment manufacturing
  • In the oil and gas industries for producing parts such as valves, flanges, fittings, and faucets
  • In the mining industry for manufacturing components like wheels, mills, crushers, and heavy machinery
  • In the automotive industry for producing parts such as crankshafts, cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, bases, and bearings.
